Your Future - Learner Award Ceremony
On Course South West recently held a celebratory Learner Award Ceremony to recognise the achievements of young people participating in the "Your Future" programme. The event, held last Friday, brought together learners, their families, programme partners and On Course South West staff to acknowledge the transformative impact of the initiative.
The "Your Future" programme is a bespoke initiative designed to support young individuals aged 19-25, with some opportunities available for 16-18 year olds. It focuses on building confidence, exploring career aspirations, and developing essential skills for employment, further education, or training. Participants benefit from day trips, short breaks, and hands-on learning experiences, fostering interpersonal skills, boosting employability, and enhancing self-resilience. The programme particularly caters to those with Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs), other support needs, and those who experience barriers to learning.
The programme is evolving into a Supported Internship offer from April 2025. Supported internships are structured, work-based study programmes for 16-25 year olds with SEND and an EHCP.
During the award ceremony, several learners shared powerful testimonials about the impact of the programme on their lives. One learner stated, "I had no hope, no future, and now I’m about to start my own business as a photographer. I owe my whole future to the Your Future programme." Another described the programme as a "lifeline," while a third celebrated the "amazing adventure" they had experienced.
Special recognition was given to Beth Munro for presenting the Creative Arts Award, Jane Ashford at Poole Farm for presenting the Green Skills Award, Kinga and Maciej of Open Kamera for their ongoing support, and La Bouche at the Fort for providing cupcakes for the event.
On Course South West is committed to empowering young people in the South West region with the skills and confidence they need to achieve their full potential. The "Your Future" programme exemplifies this commitment, providing a vital pathway to employment, education, and a brighter future.
