OCSW’s Turing & Your Future - Paris Adventure!

The Turing opportunities continue for the Your Future programme where 7 learners travelled to Paris, and for some, it was their first time travelling abroad.

The trip began with a leisurely cruise along the River Seine, taking in all the sights but this adventure made the group want to explore these beautiful sights up close, so the trip become jam-packed with visits and activities, resulting in an average step-count of 17,000 per day! Visiting the Notre-Dame, Palace of Versailles, the Latin Quarter and Ile de la cité gave wonderful memories to the group, where a particular learner said that one of their highlights was "being able to go inside the Notre Dame, seeing it's beautiful architecture and stain glass windows, since it's fire in 2019."

As well as trekking across the city, we ventured high off the ground to see stunning views of Paris; from the 56th floor of the Montparnasse Tower, where the observation deck offered us a panoramic view of Paris, to the 2nd floor of the Eiffel tower at night time and the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur at the summit of Montmartre, providing learners an opportunity to see the vast cityscape of Paris from different landmarks.

Learners also visited an urban farm, where they helped plant herbs and consider ways to become more sustainable, enabling them to complete an environmental awareness unit, as part of their certificate in personal and social development.

On return a learner said "whilst visiting the Eiffel Tower is one of my favourite memories, I will never forget all the fun and laughter we had, which made the whole trip amazing." Another commented “I have had such a great time, feeling like I have been part of a second family, getting to know everyone more than I did" ending their quote with #YourFuture4Life

The group embraced the sweet French cuisine eating plenty of pan au chocolate, croissants, crepes and macarons. Some ventured towards the savoury, trying frogs' legs, but escargot was a bit out of reach for them!

Lead Project Tutor, Vicki Pinder said “What a memorable week! We explored so much of Paris seeing some incredible sights and these learners were such troopers, but their journey's ventured far beyond the city of Paris! From the individual to the collective growth, their friendships have blossomed, and their outlook matured, where it has been a joy to be part of. We made some great memories in Paris, but their journey doesn't end here."
