Here at OCSW we are excited to be able to run GCSE courses starting in September with exam sittings in June. These qualifications could open doors for you and enable you to further your study or your career.
GCSE is the recognised standard for progression in many careers and further courses, including entry to certain university courses. Cost? This course will be FREE for English and Maths as long as you don’t already have a GCSE grade 4/C or higher in the subject you wish to study.
GCSEs

GCSE Maths
GCSE Maths is a nationally recognised qualification. For many learners achieving a grade 4 or higher builds confidence in Maths skills as well as opening doors to greater work opportunities and high education.
This course is delivered in 3 hour sessions starting in September. It is assessed through the completion of three exam papers in May and June.
If you wish to start a GCSE course in January a compressed course is offered with learners studying for a day a week at Hyde Park House and sitting exams during the summer period (dates are shown below). To apply click on the link below and choose the enrol now option.
Learners must be confident with basic maths and or completed Functional Skills or Skills for Life at level 2 in preparation for this course.

GCSE English Language
GCSE English Language is a nationally recognised qualification. For many learners achieving a grade 4 or higher builds confidence in English skills as well as opening doors to greater work opportunities and higher education.
This course is delivered in 3 hour sessions starting in September. It is assessed through completion of two exam papers in May and June as well as a speaking and listening assessment.
If you wish to start a GCSE course in January a compressed course is offered with learners studying for a day a week at Hyde Park House and sitting exams during the summer period (dates are shown below). To apply click on the link below and choose the enrol now option.
Learners need either a previous grade of a 3/D in GCSE English Language or a level 2 Functional Skill in English or demonstrating, by initial assessment, that their English skills are at a level 2.

GCSE Combined Science
This GCSE Science course allows learners to study for the combined award and covers content including Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The combined award results in learners being awarded the equivalent of 2 GCSEs once the assessments are successfully completed.
This is a practical course and sessions will include tutor-led demonstrations, learner-led group activities, instruction and repetition. These will form part of the delivery together with one-to-one support as required. Learners need to allow a minimum of 2 hours per week for homework and study time.

GCSE Biology
This course will follow the AQA GCSE Biology Specification. The Course will lead to you achieving a GCSE's at grades 9 to 1 and can support with entry to a huge range of further learning, apprenticeships and employment including STEM roles, care, health, teaching, and many more.
This is a practical course and sessions will include tutor-led demonstrations, learner-led group activities, instruction and repetition. These will form part of the delivery together with one-to-one support as required. Learners need to allow a minimum of 2 hours per week for homework and study time.
